Urethral obstruction is one of the most dangerous conditions in cats, especially males. Without treatment, a complete blockage can cause kidney failure and death within 24-48 hours.

Early Warning Signs

• Straining in the litter box with little or no output
• Crying or vocalizing while attempting to urinate
• Licking the genital area excessively
• Blood in urine

Prevention

Feed wet food to increase water intake. Ensure multiple water sources. Reduce stress. Maintain a healthy weight.
