Sphynx Cat Skin Care: Bathing and Health Tips

Breed Overview

Sphynx cats have a fine peach-fuzz coating. Without fur to absorb skin oils, they require regular bathing. Medium-sized (6-12 pounds), extremely social.

Bathing Schedule

Bathe every 1-2 weeks with gentle, cat-specific shampoo. Lukewarm water (98-100F). Rinse thoroughly. Pat dry with a warm towel.

Ear Cleaning

Clean ears weekly with vet-recommended cleaner and cotton balls. Brown wax is normal; redness or odor indicates infection.

Sun Protection

Sphynx cats can get sunburned. Keep out of direct sunlight during peak hours. Apply pet-safe sunscreen for windowsill sunbathers.

Temperature Regulation

Provide warm bedding, heated cat beds, and cat sweaters in cold weather. Ideal room temperature: 70-80F.

Skin Health Monitoring

Check for acne, fungal infections, and allergies during baths. Report any new spots to your vet.
