Ragdoll Cat: Gentle Giant Profile

Breed Overview

Ragdolls are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, with males reaching 15-20 pounds. They're known for their striking blue eyes, semi-long silky fur, and docile temperament.

Personality

Ragdolls are often called puppy cats because they follow owners room to room, greet at the door, and enjoy being held. They're gentle with children and other pets.

Health Considerations

• Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy — A genetic heart condition affecting about 30% of Ragdolls. Regular cardiac screening is recommended.
• Bladder stones — More prone than average. Ensure adequate hydration.
• Obesity risk — Their laid-back nature makes them prone to weight gain.

Care Requirements

Despite their semi-long coat, Ragdolls lack an undercoat and mat less than expected. Weekly brushing keeps their fur in good condition. They're strictly indoor cats due to their trusting nature.
