Human Foods Cats Can Safely Eat

Safe Human Foods for Cats

While cat food should be the primary diet, some human foods are safe as occasional treats. Always introduce new foods slowly and in small amounts.

Proteins

Cooked chicken, turkey, beef, and eggs are excellent protein treats. Always cook thoroughly — raw meat carries salmonella risk. Avoid seasoning, garlic, and onions.

Fruits

Blueberries, watermelon (seedless), banana, and cantaloupe are safe in small amounts. Cats lack sweet taste receptors, so they may not be interested.

Vegetables

Cooked pumpkin (plain), steamed broccoli, peas, and carrots are safe. Pumpkin is especially helpful for digestive issues. Avoid alliums (onions, garlic, leeks).

Dairy Caution

Most adult cats are lactose intolerant. Small amounts of hard cheese or plain yogurt may be tolerated, but milk often causes diarrhea.
