Bengal Cat Diet: Nutrition for Active Breeds
Bengals: Athletes That Need Premium Fuel
Bengal cats are among the most active and muscular domestic breeds. Their wild ancestry gives them higher energy demands and specific nutritional requirements.
Key Nutritional Requirements
High Protein (40%+ Dry Matter)
Bengals need significantly more protein than average cats. Look for foods where named animal proteins are the first three ingredients.
Moderate Fat (18-25%)
Active Bengals burn more calories and need adequate fat for sustained energy. Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids support their glossy coat.
Low Carbohydrates (Under 10%)
Cats have no nutritional requirement for carbohydrates. High-carb diets contribute to obesity and diabetes.
Feeding Schedule
Feed two to three measured meals per day. An average adult Bengal needs 250-350 calories daily. Aim for at least 50% wet food for hydration.
Foods to Avoid
Avoid grain-heavy foods, milk and dairy, raw fish, and foods containing onion or garlic.
