Catio Design Basics

• Use 16-gauge welded wire mesh (1x2 inch openings)
• Include multiple levels and platforms
• Add shade areas and weather protection
• Ensure secure latches on all access points

Safety Checklist

Before allowing access, verify: no gaps larger than 1 inch, no toxic plants within reach, no access to the roof edge, and secure attachment to the house or enclosure frame.

Enrichment Additions

Include cat-safe grasses, hanging toys, bird feeders visible from inside the catio, and elevated perches. Rotate toys weekly to maintain interest.
