Carrier Training: Make Vet Trips Easier

Why Train the Carrier

Cats who only see the carrier before vet visits develop anxiety. Training makes it a safe, neutral space year-round.

Step 1: Leave It Out

Keep the carrier accessible at all times. Place soft bedding inside. Let your cat explore voluntarily without pressure.

Step 2: Positive Associations

Feed treats near and inside the carrier. Place favorite toys or catnip inside. Praise calm behavior around the carrier.

Step 3: Short Trips

Close the door briefly while comfortable inside. Carry to another room. Open immediately and reward. Gradually extend duration.

Step 4: Car Practice

Take short drives without vet destinations. This breaks the carrier-equals-vet association. Pheromone spray inside helps anxious cats.
