Sphynx Cat: Skin Care Essentials
Why Skin Care Is Critical for Sphynx
Without fur to absorb natural oils, Sphynx cats develop oily, dirty skin that can lead to infections and acne. Regular care is not optional — it's essential.
Bathing Routine
- Weekly baths with gentle, cat-specific shampoo
- Use warm (not hot) water
- Clean between skin folds carefully
- Pat dry — don't rub, as their skin is sensitive
Sun Protection
Sphynx cats can get sunburned. Apply pet-safe sunscreen to exposed areas if they have access to sunny windows. Never let them sunbathe outdoors unsupervised.
Temperature Management
Hairless cats lose body heat quickly. They need warm environments (70-80 degrees F), sweaters in cool weather, and heated beds in winter.
Ear Care
Without fur in their ears, Sphynx cats accumulate wax quickly. Clean ears weekly with vet-approved ear cleaner.
