Scottish Fold: Ear Care and Joint Health Guide
Breed Overview
Scottish Folds have distinctive folded ears from a genetic cartilage mutation. Medium-sized (6-13 pounds) with round faces and large eyes.
Ear Care
- Clean weekly with vet-approved ear cleaner
- Watch for redness, odor, head shaking
- Never breed two folded-ear cats together
Osteochondrodysplasia
All folded-ear Scottish Folds have abnormal cartilage development. Symptoms: stiff tail, reluctance to jump, short thick ankles. Joint supplements and weight management can slow progression.
Exercise
Encourage daily play with interactive toys. Keep weight healthy to reduce joint stress.
Grooming
Short-haired: weekly brushing. Long-haired: 3-4 times per week.
Temperament
Calm, adaptable, affectionate. Often sit in the Buddha position. Good with apartments and other pets.
